About Us
At Bluestem Hunting Preserve great upland bird hunting is our passion and we strive to recreate the excitement of opening day pheasant season every time we step into the field. We do this with knowledgeable guides, experienced dogs and plenty of birds. We offer traditional Kansas field hunts for pheasant, quail and chukar on gently rolling terain with quality cover. We hunt every day from October 1 thru March 31. Our hunting fields are a combination of native bluestem grass and wooded creek bottom located in Kingman County. Our headquarters and lodge are located 4 mi. west and 2 mi. north of Kingman, KS at 2301 North highway 14. We are approximately one hour west of the Wichita airport.
We offer various hunting options to accommodate our customers:
(Guided Hunt) When you step into the field on one of these hunts you will be accompanied by an expert guide and some of the finest shorthair pointers to be found anywhere. Your dog is always welcome. Shots are guaranteed and you can choose to hunt either pheasant, quail or chukar. (Self Guided Hunt) This option is for the hunter who has an experienced dog and doesn't need or want to hunt with a guide. This hunt allows the guest to take either 5 pheasant or 12 quail. Extra birds may be purchased. (European Shoot) This is an exciting option offered by Bluestem for the fourth year and guarantees the participant an experience they won't soon forget. In the Euro, the shooter takes pass shots as the birds fly over his station or blind. The shooter rotates through several stations giving him a variety of challenging shots. Handlers and dogs are provided to retrieve the downed birds while the action is taking place. Afterwards, the shooters are given the option of a field hunt for the birds that escaped. Bring plenty of shells ( no. 7 1/2 shot)
Bluestem has lodging accommodations for up to 16 hunters in our well equipped and comfortable lodge. Groups can arrange for exclusive use of the lodge with prior reservation and a non-refundable deposit. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and use our complete kitchen facilities.
