Traditional Kansas Field Hunting at its Best

kansas guided pheasant and qual hunting

At Bluestem Hunting Preserve, great upland bird hunting is our passion and we strive to recreate the excitement of opening day pheasant season every time we step into the field. We do this with knowledgeable guides, experienced dogs, and plenty of birds. We offer traditional Kansas field hunts for pheasants and quail on gently rolling terrain with quality cover. We hunt birds every day from October 1st through March 31st. Our hunting fields are a combination of native bluestem grass and wooded creek bottom located in Kingman County. We also offer deer hunts with a variety of prime whitetail habitat locations. We are able to accommodate hunters through both rifle and archery season, as well as black powder. Check out our photo gallery for some great pictures at a few of those sites. Spring turkey hunting is a great option as well with much of the same land advantages. We can assist with guiding you toward this opportunity or you can try your own luck as a self guided option.

Our headquarters and lodge are located at 2301 North Highway 11 in Kingman, KS (Please note Highway 11 was previosly listed as Highway 14). We are 4 miles West and 2 miles North of the town of Kingman off of Hwy 54/400 which is under an hour west of Wichita, KS and the Wichita Airport. We offer lodging in our facility that accommodates up to 16 people and includes a full kitchen and two full baths with a commons area sporting a big screen TV, pool table, poker table, and ping pong. Bluestem Hunting is owned by Scott Huhman and proud to be family operated.

Guided Hunt

When you step into the field on one of these hunts you will be accompanied by an expert guide and some of the finest shorthair pointers to be found anywhere. Your dog is always welcome. Shots are guaranteed and you can choose to hunt either pheasant,or quail.

Self Guided Hunt

This option is for the hunter who has an experienced dog and doesn't need or want to hunt with a guide. This hunt allows the guest to take either 5 pheasant or 12 quail. Extra birds may be purchased as well. This is also an excellent chance to work a young dog or a seasoned dog prior to the regular hunting season to prepare for opening day.

European Shoot

This is an exciting option offered by Bluestem and guarantees the participant an experience they won't soon forget. In the Euro, the shooter takes pass shots as the birds fly over his station or blind. The shooter rotates through several stations giving him a variety of challenging shots. Handlers and dogs are provided to retrieve the downed birds while the action is taking place. Afterwards, the shooters are given the option of a field hunt for the birds that escaped. Bring plenty of shells (#7 1/2 shot only).
